UT Khader fears misuse of online pharmacy sale

Mr Khader expressed concern over the probable misuse of the online pharmacy.

Mysuru: Health Minister U.T. Khader has opposed the Central government’s proposal to introduce E-pharmacy and urged the Drug Controller General of India, Dr G.N. Singh to introduce it only after rules and regulations are formulated.

Speaking at the valedictory programme of the 67th Indian Pharmaceutical Congress at JSS University, here on Monday, Mr Khader expressed concern over the probable misuse of the online pharmacy. “It may lead to purchase of medicines without a prescription. That could be detrimental to one’s health,” he said.

“We will cancel the licences of pharma stores which sell medicines without prescriptions,” he said and expressed displeasure over pharmacists handing over pharma shops to common people to handle drug sale. He also suggested that the pharma sector in Karnataka take up more research. “There has hardly been any research in this field in Karnataka. Pharmacists should be more ethical and committed,” he said.

The Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of the Abu Dhabi- based New Medical Centre Group of Companies, Mr B.R. Shetty, who participated in the event, said, “I went to Dubai from Mangaluru with seven dollars. I could not even get a job because I did not know Arabic then. So innovate, think big,” he said explaining the key to success

Mr Shetty promised to set up a multi-care specialty hospital in Udupi without taking funds or land from the state government and said the profit earned, will be utilised to treat poor and needy patients at a charitable hospital which he plans to establish in Udupi.
