Hyderabad: Ahead of the GHMC elections, Hyderabad Metro Rail officials are amused with the attention showered by political parties, trying to claim credit for the Metro.
With the Telangana Rashtra Samiti claiming it to be “world class” and the Bharatiya Janta Party calling it “the golden opportunity” for the residents of the Old City, the Metro Rail is definitely trending.
A senior Metro Rail official said, “The fact that the government has agreed to go with the original alignment shows that majority of people travel along that route and they will benefit from it. This in turn has been the biggest advantage for the present government.”
While the re-alignment was only to appease a section of the population, the original route that goes opposite the Assembly and also Sultan Bazaar, is acceptable to a majority.
The reviews from the first trial run were very encouraging.
And with so much to cash in on, keeping quiet just ahead of the GHMC elections will not do. A senior officer said, “A few people who went on the trial run had apprised the government that it must start talking about the Metro as part of its achievements. While the erstwhile government had conceived it, majority of the works were carried out in the last one and a half years. The advisory was that this significant aspect must be highlighted and that’s how the first trial run with ministers and party workers was carried out last week.”
