Solar scam: Cops hide pen drives, CDs, Sarita tells panel
The police had also taken away a laptop and four mobile phones on the day.
Kochi: Solar case-accused Saritha S. Nair on Monday informed the solar commission that the police had not produced in the court the six compact discs and three pen drives, which they had seized while she was taken into custody on June 2, 2013.
The police had also taken away a laptop and four mobile phones on the day. However, there was no mention about the CDs and pen drives in the list of materials collected before the Perumbavoor court.
The police records stated that two mobiles used by her and Biju and one used by her mother and a laptop was taken into custody during the time of the arrest, she said.
She told the commission that when she was in jail, she had written a letter to be handed over to her lawyer.
It was given to Kerala Congress (B) leader R. Balakrishna Pillai and later to a lawyer of the High Court of Kerala as instructed by her. She informed the panel that she knew the KC(B) leader through his son and former minister K.B. Ganesh Kumar.
Meanwhile, Biju Radhakrishnan sought permission to personally cross-examine Chief minister Oommen Chandy, Saritha S. Nair, actress Shalu Menon, Fenny Balakrishnan, a former lawyer of Saritha, and Indira Ramachandran. The commission would consider the plea on January 4.
A request from Biju sought to invoke section 8 B of the Commission of Inquiry Act, 1952. As per the section “if a person is likely to be prejudicially affected to be heard — If, at any stage of the inquiry, the commission, the commission shall give to that person a reasonable opportunity of being heard in the inquiry and to produce evidence in his defence.”
The next sitting of the commission headed by Justice G. Sivarajan is on January 4.
