Simbu seeks advance bail in ‘Beep’ case

T.R. Silambarasan alias Simbu has filed two petitions in the Madras high court seeking anticipatory bail.

Chennai: Apprehending arrest in connection with the controversial ‘Beep song’, actor T.R. Silambarasan alias Simbu has filed two petitions in the Madras high court seeking anticipatory bail.
Following complaints from the Coimbatore unit of All India Democratic Women’s Association (AIDWA) and others, alleging that a song composed by Anirudh and sung by Simbu, which was uploaded in the social media, was obscene and depicted women in bad taste, the Race Course Police in Coimbatore registered a criminal case against the duo.
Similarly, based on a complaint from Tamil Nadu Milk Vendors Welfare association, the Cen-tral Crime Branch here registered another case against the duo.
Fearing arrest in these two cases, Simbu filed the present anticipatory bail petitions. These petitions are likely to come up for hearing on December 23. In his petitions, Simbu submitted he was a leading Tamil film artiste who had acted in several films and had a good reputation in public and film industry.
He was also a music lover and had performed as a singer in various films and recorded music albums. He had recorded various music tracks and songs personally without using or intention to use the same in films or releasing the same for public consumption.
Those tunes, songs and music tracks were in a scratch rough format without the completed lyrics and an incomplete version not intended for the public.
He had got right over such scratch rough tracks of the songs and no third party had any right to infringe into his privacy, he added.
He said he had not released the alleged song containing any obscene words. Neither the complainant nor the police in the FIR stated that he had transmitted the song containing the objectionable word against women in the electronic form. There was no case made out against him for the alleged offences.
His father had given a complaint on December 14 to the commissioner of police on his behalf stating that some unknown third party had with ulterior motive transmitted the sound track with interpolated words without the knowledge and consent of his son in the electronic media, which was nothing but an interference of the right to privacy of his son. Therefore, his father requested the police commissioner to find out the culprit and take action.
Simbu said the police was searching for him at his residence while he was out of station. He apprehended arrest any moment for the alleged offences, he said.
Seven Simbu fans attempt suicide, held
Seven people have been arrested after they tried to commit suicide in front of actor Simbu’s house on Sunday to show their support. They gathered at the actor’s house in T. Nagar and started to shout slogans in his support and two of the fans suddenly doused themselves in kerosene.
However, the police reached the spot and rescued them. Police have been already been posted at the house to keep a watch as many agitations have been taking place against the actor.
When the police spotted the kerosene, they snatched the kerosene cans from two of them, Madan, president of Simbu Fans Club in Vaniyambadi in Vellore, and Prakash a member of the same club. Police arrested the group and took them to Pondy Bazaar police for questioning. The police have registered a
case against the group under section 151 which is apprehension for breach of peace of CRPC. Police let the group go after warning them of consequences if they tried to protest without getting prior permission from police.
Kovai police issue fresh summons to actor, Anirudh
As protests against the controversial ‘beep’ song gets louder, the city police have issued a fresh summon to actor Simbu and music composer Anirudh asking them to appear before police on January 2.
Both Simbu and Anirudh failed to appear on December 19 to a summon issued earlier by Race Course police for indecent representation of women in their ‘beep’ song. While Anirudh’s lawyer P Senthilkumar sought a week for the music composer to appear before the police, Simbu’s father T. Rajendar had sent a letter explaining that Simbu has been pre-occupied with his projects for about a month and may not be able to appear until then.
As both of them sought more time to appear, the city police had issued a fresh summon. However, if they again fail to appear, the Race Course police have decided to move the court seeking an arrest warrant against them.
