Jagadish Shettar predicts 15 seats for BJP

With nine legislators in Belagavi district, the region could make a major difference to state politics.

BELAGAVI: Countering the claims of leaders of the ruling Congress about a complete sweep of polls to the Legislative Council, leader of Opposition in the Legislative Assembly, Jagadish Shettar, said that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) would win at least 15 seats because of growing popularity of the party.

“The Siddaramaiah-led anti-farmer government has failed to deliver in all areas ever since it was voted to power. The BJP will bounce back this time and sound a warning for the ruling party,” he said while addressing an election rally at Gokak in support of his party candidate, Mahantesh Kavatgimath.

Mr Shettar said that not a single pro-people programme was initiated by the state government and that many of the developmental works launched by the previous Bharatiya Janata Party government were ignored by it.

Due to huge financial losses, the treasury was empty, and therefore the government could not proceed with developmental schemes, he said adding, “The government does not even have funds to pay honorarium to gram panchayat members.”

Differences overcome?
Former minister Balachandra Jarkiholi said that all differences that prevailed within the party were overcome and leaders in Belagavi district were united to turn the party into a strong entity.

State unit president of the Bharatiya Janata Party Pralhad Joshi and Mr Shettar had helped resolve differences between him, Member of Parliament Angadi and BJP senior leader Eeranna Kadadi, he added.
