Facebook page seeks support fo Abdul Kalam memorial
Within minutes after the page was launched, 500 people liked it.
Chennai: In what many see as disrespect to a man who inspired a generation and was fondly referred to as People’s President, the burial place of A.P.J. Abdul Kalam in Rameswaram stands as a picture of neglect. The worst is stray animals are defecating the surrounding.
In order to bring the matter back to focus, a dedicated Facebook page has been launched #justice4gurukalam by Anantha Krishnan, a defence writer and family friend of Dr Kalam.
Mr Krishnan said: “The purpose of the page was to get support from Indians across the globe so that the government wakes up and restored the pride of gurukalam. Our only request is a befitting memorial built at his resting place.
This page will be made inactive, once we achieve our mission”. Within minutes after the page was launched, 500 people liked it and the appeal has gone viral. Meanwhile, Dr W. Selvamurthy, former chief controller of DRDO, has also expressed shock over pathetic state of affairs. “The construction of the memorial should start immediately and a periphery wall should be built to ensure the stray animals don’t defecate at the burial place. It must have a museum too.”
