CPM behind conspiracy to weaken RSP: Shibu Baby John

He pointed out that the RSP could withstand the ‘storm’ in the local body polls that hit the UDF.
Kollam: RSP leader and Labour Minister Shibu Baby John has alleged a conspiracy to weaken the party and destroy the credibility of Mr Kovoor Kunjumon MLA, a prospective candidate in the coming Assembly elections.
Mr Kunjumon, who represents Kunnathoor seat, had reportedly met CPI state secretary Kanam Rajendran and held talks with him on joining the LDF. However, he has denied the reports.
Mr Shibu Baby John said here on Monday that Mr Kunjumon has been a successful candidate of the RSP for the last three terms and associating him with the LDF was aimed at creating distrust among the people.
“The CPM has been trying to persuade RSP members to join the LDF. Instead of trying to get more people from other parties, it should stop the exodus of the youth from it to the BJP,” he said.
He pointed out that the RSP could withstand the ‘storm’ in the local body polls that hit the UDF. “The party had 31 panchayat members in 2010 while now it has 30, which is better than that in 2005. It won four seats out of eight in the corporation, which is the same as in 2005. Though the RSP candidate failed in my ward, the party gained more votes at the block level,” he said.
Mr Kovoor Kunjumon denied the allegation about him associating with the LDF, which had created panic even among the party members.
“There is no reason to leave the front. We are committed to lead the front which we are associated with,” he said. The party would conduct a special plenum within a year to take further decisions, he added.
