Calicut University forms HoD panel to study campus security
It will also visit the campus during the day and night to check basic facilities including streetlights.

Kozhikode: The Calicut University has formed a seven-member committee to suggest ways to improve security after a section of girls complained of violence and harassment by anti-social elements on its campus.
The decision was taken during a high-level meeting with the teaching department heads that vice-chancellor Dr K. Mohammed Basheer convened on Monday.
The panel headed by philosophy department head Dr K. Gopinath will suggest immediate steps to be taken and if new security outposts and gates were needed or the existing ones rearranged.
It will also visit the campus during the day and night to check basic facilities including streetlights.
Addressing the meeting, the VC said the university needed to ensure safety of students and they should feel secure on the campus. He sought the support of the staff and students.
The VC himself visited various parts of the campus and ordered installation of better streetlights.
Other members of the committee are Dr Muhammed Mustafa (Physics), Dr K. Geetha Kumari (Sanskrit), Dr A.B. Moideen Kutty (Arabic), Dr V.P. Sakeer Hussain (Physical Education), Dr L. Thomas Kutty (Malayalam) and Dr Nagendra Srinivas (Russian).
Raj Bhavan promises action on complaints
Governor P Sathasivam will look into various complaints and memoranda received over the harassment issue at Calicut University after Wednesday.
The Governor received a number of complaints from a section of students in the varsity alleging harassment, another grievance from a group of students alleging manipulation of mass plea and also memoranda from students and teachers against the senate’s decision to take disciplinary action against students accused of memorandum manipulation.
Raj Bhavan sources told Deccan Chronicle that the Governor would be apprised of the incidents and complaints after his return to office from tour.
“We have already received the report from Calicut University Vice Chancellor on the harassment issue. We have also received a number of other complaints from various sections of students over the issue. The Governor will soon look into the matter and take a decision accordingly,” the source confirmed.
