Personnel to turn tech-savvy, get trained in cyber crime, forensic science.

Chennai: With railway ticketing touts operating at various points and railway police cracking 14 cases in a span of three months, Railway Protection Force (RPF) with the help of state police, is venturing into ideas to make its personnel technically proficient and updated.
As a part of this initiative, RPF is planning to start technical training to its members in sectors like cyber crime, baggage screening and forensic science in the days to come. The training will go on for one month in a technical institute that is under the railways.
“With issues like ticket touting and other cyber crimes on a rise these days, we need to make our members technically skilled so that everyone can handle technical issue. The idea, which is in the pipeline right now has to be sanctioned before it is streamlined,” said K.K Ashraff, Senior divisional security commissioner, RPF.
In the last one month, 14 cases of ticket touting has been cracked by the railway police arresting four agents with 160 tickets worth Rs 73,000 seized from Moore Market Complex (MMC).
In a view to provide more security to passengers traveling between Chennai beach and stations like Korukkupet and Vyasarapadi after 5 pm till 6 am, a team of 12 members has started escorting EMUs and express trains for the past one week. As part of this, security teams have started escorting 12 EMU trains and 16 express trains for the past one week.
“We have employed the force in this particular area as we understand there are a number of incidents of mobile and chain snatching where youngsters are involved. More cases are reported in the evenings,” Ashraff said.
