A stroke of good luck

Shanvi Srivastava has moved into the big league as she awaits the release of her next film Masterpiece with Rocking Star Yash this month.
After a Lovely debut as an actress, and a Ram Gopal Varma film, Rowdy in Tollywood she ventured into Sandalwood as a ‘cute ghost’. The film Chandralekha, was a remake of a Telugu hit movie and struck gold at the box office. Actor Shanvi Srivastava has got a strong foothold with back-to-back projects including the most awaited release of the year —Masterpiece with Rocking Star Yash. She speaks to us in an exclusive interview about her film this month, and a trilingual film partly based on the life of cricketer Sreesanth which she is on the verge of signing and much more.
“Working for Masterpiece was a great experience for me. Frankly speaking, I did not realise how ‘big’ the project was when I initially signed it. I realised it only after I started shooting for the film. In fact I am still confused about who decided to cast me for this project.
“I was told that it was the director Manju Mandavya sir, and later that it was the cinematographer of the film. But whosoever decided to choose, I am thankful to them for having faith in me,” says Shanvi. Recently the team created a record by shooting a song involving at least 1,000 crew members in the middle of the day at one of the busiest markets in the country – KR Market in Bengaluru. “It was crazy shooting for it. It involved 600 dancers and more than 400 junior artistes. If not for the team’s effort, Murali master, Yash and the director, it would have been difficult to pull it off. Around 10,000 people had gathered near the market, on the nearby fly over while the market was buzzing with vendors and customers. Even Yash had to make an announcement on the mic requesting public to cooperate,” she recollects.
Ask her about sharing screen space with veteran artiste Suhasini Maniratnam, and Shanvi says that it an honour to perform alongside her. “I hardly had a couple of scenes with her. I had to give retakes, but madam was so down to earth that she would encourage me and help me perform with the perfect expressions for the scenes. I only wish all experienced actors were so kind hearted and simple. As far as working with Yash, he was a professional and very dedicated. He would take care of every minute detail and would not just restrict himself to his role. He has an impressive personality.” After the release of Masterpiece, Shanvi is waiting on the release of Bhale Jodi, directed by Sadhu Kokila. She also confirms signing a Kannada project to be directed by the versatile personality, Ramesh Arvind. “I have signed the new movie alongside Golden Star Ganesh, and look forward to being directed by Ramesh sir. I have heard a lot about his love for films,” she says about the remake of super hit Telugu movie Bhale Bhale Mogadivoy.
On signing the big one, a trilingual to be made in Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam, partly based on the life of cricketer Sreesanth, the actress says that she has said yes and is on the verge of closing the contract for the film. “I have said yes to it. I would be playing the love interest of the protagonist to be portrayed by Sreesanth himself.” Apart from acting, modelling and spending quality time with her celebrity friends, and family members, the actress says she loves pets and that she has one kitty called Casper. “I would have liked a dog instead – a pet which showers love once you reach home, unlike the cat for which I have to look around and pamper all the time,” laughs Shanvia adding that she is open to Bollywood offers too.
