Twenty years is a very long gap, but the film buffs who have enjoyed the onscreen chemistry of Mohanlal and Urvashi might not still believe that it has been so long since they last saw the pair in Bhadran’s 1995 movie Spadikam. Here comes the good news!
Mohanlal and Urvashi are gearing up to work together in a Malayalam-speaking Telugu anthology film. Urvashi, who has been rather inactive in M’town for the last two years, opens up about why she keeps a distance from the industry and focuses on Kollywood and Tollywood.
“I am glad to work in a film in which Lalettan acts. But as it is an anthology film which consists of four small films, we are not acting in the same portion. I and Gouthami are acting in a film, when Lalettan, who essays the role of a Malayali in Hyderabad, is acting in another portion. Though we have no combination scenes, I am really happy to be part of a film with him after a long gap. As it is in the production stage, I cannot talk much about this yet-to-be-titled film directed by Chandrasekhar Yeleti,” says the actress, who was last seen in the Tamil-Telugu bilingual Size Zero.
When quizzed about why she was concentrating more on Tamil and Telugu for the last two-three years, Urvashi says, “My son Ishaan Prajapathi, is just one-year-old. I have to be with him and cannot go for Malayalam projects which take 40-50 days to get completed. But when it comes to Tamil, Telugu or Kannada, these films are being shot at studios, so that I can go there with my son. This is a time he needs more care and attention from mother, that’s why there is a gap in Malayalam,” she says.
But Urvashi says she won’t deny any mind-blowing roles coming her way. “I am still getting calls from Malayalam. But I could not find any specialities in those offers. Years, back when I agreed to act in Achuvinte Amma, my daughter Kunjatta was hardly three years old. Though I was not keen on acting and did prefer to be with my daughter, it was the role that attracted me to that project. So if I get such a role, I will not say no to that,” says the actress, who is in Chennai to act in Shivaji productions’ next venture which has Kalidas Jayaram in the lead.
“I am happy to share screen space with Kalidas, whom I know from his birth. I have seen his performance as a child and later in the stage shows. Now I am going to act along with him in this fantasy-comedy film. As of now I cannot talk much about my role; all I can say is that I have a lot of combination scenes with Kalidas and I have been paired opposite Prabhu Ganeshan Sir,” says the actress, whose husband Shivaprasad, is all set to wear the hat of film maker with a short film, Vande Bharatham.
“It was his dream to direct a film. Earlier Shivan chettan has assisted Rajiv Anchal, who is his paternal uncle, in Guru. Though Shivan chettan is active in construction business, he always tried to chase his dream. That was how he landed up on this patriotic short film,” says Urvashi.
What is her role in her husband’s debut directorial venture? “All I have done is offer him moral support. Yes, I had time limitations and I do not like to interfere on his creative space. More than direction, scripting is his passion. Now I am looking forward to see his feature film entry. There too, I would offer him moral support as a wife,” she sums up.
