‘Atom bomb factory’ scares Challakere

There is an air of anxiety in Nayakanahatti and surrounding villages of Challakere taluk in Chitradurga.
Bellary: Considered a protective retreat for the Amrut Mahal breed of indigenous cattle, the grasslands of Challakere are in the grip of fear and turbulence after the US-based Centre for Public Integrity (CPI) disclosed that a Uranium Enrichment Plant was set to come up in their surroundings.
There is an air of anxiety in Nayakanahatti and surrounding villages of Challakere taluk in Chitradurga as most people here would lose their livelihood after the acquisition of 8,073 acres of pastoral Kavals (grassland) for the projects of Defence Research Development Organisation (DRDO), Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC ), Indian Institute of Science (IISc) and Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO). They are more concerned over the fact that these hi-tech institutions would have no gainful employment to offer to them.
