Four in race for Andhra Pradesh BJP chief post
Ongole: Incumbent BJP state president K. Haribabu, former Union minister Daggubati Purandhes-wari, MLC Somu Veer Raju and former minister Kanna Lakshminarayana are in the race for the BJP state president’s post.
K. Haribabu, MP and currently working as party state president, is unwilling to continue, but being a staunch follower of Union minister for Urban development M. Venkaiah Naidu, he may have to do so if the high command wants him to. Former Union minister Daggubati Purandheswari is also eyeing the post.
MLC Somu Veer Raju, who is also in the race for the post, has been criticising the TD government for this and involving activists in the issue. It is being said that if Ms Purandheswari were given a chance, she could point up the failures of the ruling TD government and strengthen the party in the state.
The party high command wants to develop the party from the grassroots on its own, it is learnt. Some leaders are planning to turn to Kapus to stren-gthen the party as they constitute a major vote bank in the state.
If this proposal is translated into action Kanna Lak-shminarayana is likely to get a chance to be state party president. The party is currently conducting district committee polls in the state.
