Democracy in peril: PM Bhargava
BJP government rules the country by the RSS agenda.
KOCHI: Democracy and secularism have been facing the greatest threat in India after the BJP government came to power at the Centre, noted genetic scientist P. M. Bhargava said on Sunday.
Speaking after inaugurating the Manushyasangamam organised by People against Fascism, Prof. Bhargava said the BJP government, ruling the country as per the RSS agenda, has been suppressing all critical voices in the country.
“For the past 18 months, the prime minister has not uttered the word science,” he said. The BJP leaders have given the assurance earlier that they would not allow genetically modified plants and agriculture, but these promises have been thrown to winds after coming to power, he added.
Addressing the meeting, noted poet Satchidanandan explained the link between increasing militarisation of the state and growing intolerance in the society.
Writers Anand, Leena Manimekhala, Adivasi Gothra Mahasabha leader C. K. Janu, CPM leader M. A. Baby, CPI leader Kanam Rajendran, Porattom general council chairman M. N. Ravunni, anti-Posco agitation leader Abhay Sahu and several others addressed the sessions and the public meeting held as part of the day-long function.
