Daya Bai evicted from KSRTC bus
KOCHI: Well-known social activist Daya Bai was allegedly evicted from a Kerala State Road Transport Corporation bus while travelling from Thrissur to Aluva on Saturday night.
Daya Bai said that she would register a complaint with the authorities concerned against the staff members, but would not press for their punishment.
She, however, said she would request the authorities concerned to instruct staff members to behave with passengers in a decent manner. Transport minister Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan later tendered an apology to her.
The ordeal of Daya Bai began when she asked the driver of the KSRTC bus whether it had neared the Aluva bus station on Saturday night while on her way from Thrissur.
The driver replied something in a rude manner and the situation worsened after the arrival of the bus conductor. The latter used abusive language and insisted that she got down before the Aluva bus stand.
Although a section of passengers insisted that Daya Bai should be dropped at the bus stand, the KSRTC staff declined and forced her to get down a stop before the Aluva bus station.
Daya Bai boarded the bus from Thrissur after taking classes for student police cadets at a school in Pavaratty. She was in Thrissur for receiving Fr Vadakkan Memorial Award.
Two police personnel saw her off from Thrissur bus stand to Aluva. Daya Bai wondered whether her attire was the reason for the shabby treatment meted out to her.
