Couple found murdered in Vijayawada
Vijayawada: An accountant at a supermarket and her husband were found murdered at their house near the fish market in Patamata here on Sunday. Munagapati Veeranjamma, 50, and her husband Gangadhar Rao, 55, were found in a pool of blood by the police who visited the spot after receiving a call from tenants of the couple.
Police said the throats and wrists of Gangadhar Rao and Veerangamma had been slashed by the attackers who stole gold ornaments weighing over 80 grams. Veeranjamma, senior assistant at the cooperative society, had been working as an accountant at Vijaya Krishna Super Bazar on deputation for 10 years. Gangadhar Rao was an autorickshaw driver and was confined to home for four years due to ill health. The couple lived by themselves in the house.
Though it appeared to be a case of murder and robbery, the police suspects the role of the couple’s daughter, son-in-law and Gangadhar’s brother Srinivas Rao who had disputes over property. The couple’s daughter Shamili was married to irrigation assistant enginner Satya Kishore and they live in Gunadala of the city.
“There is no link to the call money racket behind the murders and it is murder for gain”, said DCP L.V.K. Ranga Rao who visited the spot.
Patamata police registered a murder case and launched a manhunt for the murderers. Sniffer dogs, which were brought to the spot, led the police to the national highway near SVS Function hall via Koneru Chennakesava Street.
