Aqua and pet show a big draw
Animals from many nations featured.
KOCHI: Rare and expensive fishes, birds, dogs and other pet animals imported from New Zealand, the US, China and Australia at De Aquaria, the aqua and pet exhibition on Marine Drive, are drawing huge crowds.
Unique varieties of parrots, which are trained to talk, like the Jandaya parakeet with green wings, tail and reddish-orange body, the blue-and-gold macaw, a large South American bird with a blue top and yellow underparts, Eleonora cockatoo or the medium sulphur-crested cockatoo are on display, and there are many takers for them.
A pair of Jandaya parakeet fetches Rs 30, 000 while the blue-and-gold macaw is more expensive at Rs 1, 25000. The price of sulphur-crested cockatoo is in the range of Rs 90, 000 to Rs 1, 00,000.
Another major highlight of the show is very rare and exotic fish species. They include the yellow butterfly fish, leopard shovelnose, longnose gar, fire red Oscar, neon tetra, African rat fish, short nose alligator gar, blue snakehead, frontosa cichlids, silver dollar, Senegal fish, red parrot golden, Severum yellow parrot and silver shark.
Visitors can have a look at the expensive and popular dog breeds like pug, shih tzu, St. Bernard, beagle, Siberian husky, German shepherd and Rottweiler - and buy them. In the section of cats, the Persians and Siamese punch-face Persian cat worth Rs. 18,000 attract many.
Unique breeds of chicken like Turkish sultan, Japanese Onagadori, Australian Faverolle and Cochin bantam black are on display in the birds section. Aquarium products, free checkups and vaccination for pet animals are also available at the venue. Scuba diving in an artificially made pool of is another attraction.
