Mother places hot rod on son for theft

Hyderabad: An impoverished woman branded the hands of her five-year-old son with a heated rod after a neighbour complained that he stole money from her house. She could not afford to take the child to hospital.

The incident came to light when neighbours found Efthazan, at home with burns when his mother Mamata had gone out. Police was called in, and the boy was sent to Gandhi Hospital.
