This dentist is on wheels!
For Vijayawada-based Dr A. Sridhar Reddy, what he does is not a service, but his responsibility. A recipient of the Famdent’s outstanding dentist award for the third consecutive year, Dr Sridhar works for the well-being of less fortunate children and people around him.
Through ‘Dentistry on Wheels’, the doctor had been reaching out to thousands of villages in Krishna, Guntur, East and West Godavari districts since 1998. The team had been to many government schools in Vijayawada and other towns and have treated thousands for free.
Dr Sridhar, also the chairman of the SKCV Trust and District Red Cross Society, has been serving selflessly for 20 years, learning from people around him. “Every person has a good quality and as I observe each person and learn from them. Gaining knowledge is a continuous process,” he says.
Born to A. Vaman Reddy and Lakshmirajyam of Telaprolu village near Gannavaram, 48-year-old Dr Sridhar still follows the footsteps of his father, who had a vision for life. Born in a family of progressive members, it’s no coincidence that Dr Sridhar chose the path of social service. “My uncle married a widow 50 years ago. My family’s vision towards society was very revolutionary,” he adds.
After his MDS course, Dr Sridhar worked for three years in Bengaluru where he learnt advanced treatments in dental science. “In 1996, I was able to perform a complex orthognathic surgery, the first advanced dental service here. Many services were offered for free to the poor through a separate division in the hospital,” he adds.
Simultan-eously, he started doing social service. “One should just keep doing good things. The results may come immediately or very late but things will get better for sure,” he adds.
