Sargaalaya all set for 5th Crafts Festival

400 artisans from 22 states will showcase their creations.

KOZHIKODE: Governor P. Sathasivam will inaugurate the fifth edition of Sargaalaya Iringal International Crafts Festival at the arts and crafts village near Vatakara on Sunday.

There are more than 250 temporary stalls, in addition to the 61 permanent ones, where craftsmen from around the country and a few foreigners will exhibit their creations.

Organised by District Tourism Promotion Council, Uralungal Labour Contract Co-operative Society is managing the show.

They have also planned seminars on craft and tourism on the sidelines, besides cultural and traditional dance performances from eight states, including Rajasthan, Gujarat, Karnataka and Punjab.

“We are taking this opportunity to honour the country’s artisans,” the society’s CEO P.P. Bhaskaran said. “It’s an opportunity for the public to view great works and experience live demonstrations.”

Organisers have linked the fest to the Grand Kerala Shopping Festival opened on December 1. It will continue till Jan 15.

More than 400 artisans from 22 states, including 60 nationally-recognised craftsmen, will be showcasing their creations.

National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development will also exhibit their products.
