President seeks technology upgrade to maintain edge in military capability
Hyderabad: President Pranab Mukherjee on Saturday said India needs to upgrade technology to maintain an edge in military capability.
The President told young officers during a convocation address at the MCEME Auditorium in Secunderabad that it was their responsibility to adapt developments in technology for use of the defence forces by accelerating the pace of military innovation.
President Pranab Mukherjee, who is also Supreme Commander of Armed Forces, while delivering the convocation address of the 96th degree engineering course and 24th technical entry scheme course of the Military College of Electronics and Mechanical Engineering at the MCEME Auditorium in Secunderabad, reminded young officers that it was their responsibility to harness the latest defence technologies and ensure that the Indian Army benefits from these.
“The history of warfare bears testimony to the decisive role of technology on the outcome of military conflicts. To maintain an edge in military capability over potential opponents, constant efforts are required to upgrade technology. The armed forces and technology have been strategic partners in developing and enhancing the defence capability of the nation,” President Mukherjee said.
ECEME Commandant Lt. General Gurmukh Singh explained the activities and innovations in the institution. The training course was supervised by Major General Sanjeev Khanna. Pointing to the new graduates, Mr Mukherjee said: “You live in an era where the pace of technology transition is so fast that even as I speak, new concepts are being introduced, established paradigms are being redefined and research is opening new vistas.”
