Organic farm in memory of K S Bimal

His students, women groups come together.

KOZHIKODE: The site of the proposed cultural village at Edachery near Vadakara in memory of late SFI central committee member K.S. Bimal will bring people together for a green cause — organic vegetable cultivation.

The students of Narikunnu UP School where Bimal was a teacher and several women’s groups in and around Edachery will make use of an acre of land bought on the shore of Vadakara-Mahe canal for the memorial.

“Pesticide free organic farming and the public intervention for it was a cause that he stood for. The registration of the land (brought in the late leader’s village) will be in March only.

So we thought of using it for a productive purpose,” said M. Siju, the general convener of the cultural village project.

They are now finalising the project concept, which includes an open theatre, space for drama rehearsal, painting exhibition hall, library and reference room and children’s park.

“There will be routine cultural activities here. Artistes could stay and present programmes. It was his dream,” he said. At least 1000 of his friends will join hands to make it a reality before his first death anniversary in July.

“Bimal himself had regretted non-availability of facilities for art here,” said his friend C.K. Shiju Kumar. Bimal had many drama scripts which had struck a chord among theatre enthusiasts to his credit.
