LGBT protests dismissal of bill on Section 377 sans discussion

Around 40 people from the community gathered in front of Chennai press club to condemned the incident.
Chennai: The LGBT (lesbian, gay, bi-sexual and transgender) community in Chennai came together to protest the fact that Shashi Tharoor’s bill on re-examining section 377 of the Indian Penal Code was not discussed in Parliament.
Around 40 people from the community gathered in front of Chennai press club to condemned the incident. “As a part of LGBT community we condemn such acts. We believe the basic fundamental rights of citizen as we are also part of the Democratic Party and we vote for the same representative who rejected the bill,” said the founder of Chennai dost Vikranth Prasanna.
Further, he also said that they should have approached the LGBT community and should have considered it but the they didn’t do it. Sasha Reddy, another member of Chennai dost, said the protest was also for another bill for transgenders that was supposed to be passed but had to be postponed. “We requested Parliament to discuss and pass the bill. Supreme Court decriminalized the LGBT community, on private consensual act. We believe unless section 377 is repealed we don’t think it is right,” said Sasha.
He further said that transgenders are also included in section 377 and this protest aims to convey this to Parliament. They are also the vulnerable ones who continue to get victimized and harassed and threatened. He added, “There is a contradictory judgement given by the Supreme Court and we want Parliament to consider it, and see to it all minority community including transgenders be given equal rights under the law.”
