Four people killed in landslide in Visakhapatnam

Officials say the boulder fell off a hill due to heavy rains.

Visakhapatnam: Four people belonging to two families died on the spot when a boulder broke off from the hill abutting their pin roofed house in Sanjeevaiah nagar colony of Thatichetla Palem area in Vizag on Sunday.

Among the deceased is a seven-year-old boy. Six others belonging to the family who were injured, were rushed to the King George Hospital (KGH), their condition is said to be stable.

The deceased has been identified as, K Adinarayana, 7, K Suryanarayan, 65, Adi Lakshmi, 55, Sri Ram, 22.

GVMC commissioner, Praveen Kumar, said that the boulder broke off from the hill due to Saturday last night’s unexpected rain. GVMC staff had to struggle to retrieve, two bodies from debris and the boulder.

HRD minister Ganta Srinivas Rao and Vizag MP, K Haribabu, visited the spot.

Ganta Srinivas Rao, had asked the civic body officials to identify such sensitive areas in the city and take necessary measures that such incidents do not occur.
