Fine for pissing in public in Visakhapatnam

They planned to improve door-to-door garbage collection

Visakhapatnam: GVMC Commissioner Pravin Kumar said that they would impose a fine for public urination and discarding trash in public places. “We will levy a penalty of Rs 100 for individuals caught relieving themselves in open places for the first time, which increases to Rs 200 the second time and so on. Those who litter the streets will be fined Rs 200 the first time and so on,” he said, pointing out that there was already a provision in the Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation Act to this effect. But they would first introduce the concept of fines for insanitary behaviour to the public over a few months, advertising through FM radio, posters, electronic and print media and outdoor publicity, he added.

Mr Kumar said that they would seek the assistance of resident welfare associations, NGOs, Swachh Bharat ambassadors and slum welfare associations to make Vizag a sparkling city.

They planned to improve door-to-door garbage collection, sweeping, waste transportation and drainage clearance through several means, he explained, namely, “by identifying 350 houses as a unit, deploying more men and machinery, and appointing a nodal officer for every ward. We recently deployed 250 additional dumper bins and in the city and will get more,” he added.

“When the city is going to become a Smart City, we cannot tolerate citizens littering or urinating in public places,” said Mr. Kumar.
