Chennai: Ambulance rams into bus, three killed
The family members took the body in the same ambulance
Chennai: Three persons, including the driver, died when a private ambulance rammed a company bus at Katrambakkam junction near Sriperumbudur, 30 km from here in the early hours of Saturday.
The ambulance was already ferrying the dead body of a 60-year-old man who died of a cardiac arrest, police said.
Around 12.30 am, B.Rajendran (60), a resident of Reddy street inSriperumbudur, was taken to a private hospital after he complained of chest pain. His wife, R.Vijaya and his 27-year-old son R. Sathyanarayanan went along with him in the ambulance.
Rajendran was first taken to Jaya hospital nearby and was referred to ACS hospital in Karayanchavadi, police investigation revealed.Rajendran was declared brought dead by doctors. The family members took the body in the same ambulance
Around 2 am, when the ambulance was nearing Kaatrambakkam junction on the GWT road, a company bus going ahead reportedly swerved right to take a U-turn.The ambulance driver was taken by surprise and rammed into the bus. “The other family members and the ambulance driver, A.Periyasamy (35) of Sattur, died on the spot,” a police officer said.
The bodies were shifted to Sriperumbudur government hospital for autopsy. Based on a complaint by Rajendran’s son-in-law, B.Vinoth, Sriperumbudur police registered a case and arrested the bus driver Natarajan. Traffic was affected for an hour on the stretch following the accident.
