Andhra Pradesh to constitute Maritime Board
Hyderabad: On the directions of the Union government, AP government has decided to constitute AP Maritime Board for rapid development of port sector and industrialisation in the port areas in the state.
To this effect Minister K. Atchennaidu introduced Andhra Pradesh Maritime Board bill in the state Assembly on Saturday. The bill provides transfer to the Board of powers vested by the law in the director of ports and for the exercise and performance by or on behalf of such board of functions relating to ports in AP.
The bill also provide for the transfer to the Board certain assets and to make provision in respect of matters ancillary and incidental thereto or connected there with for overall development of hinterland and off shore areas connected to the port use.
The government said in the bill after introduction of Maritime Board the development activities can be intensified through the coast of 974 km duly identifying the new ports, allotment of the captive ports, and development of the existing ports.
The government said the probable recurring and non recurring expenditure due to formation of AP Maritime Board are arrived at Rs 10 crore and non recurring and Rs 66 crore as recurring expenditure.
