JJ Abrams almost refused to make Star Wars
Director J.J. Abrams, whose film Star Wars: The Force Awakens broke the UK’s and Ireland’s box office record for its opening day collections — around $14 million — has said that he almost didn’t take on the movie, because he didn’t want to be “the guy who does sequels”.
J.J., who has also directed the new Star Trek movies and Mission: Impossible III, told The Times, “When (Kathleen Kennedy, Lucasfilms’ president) called I did something I don’t normally do, which is look at my career. I really did feel like ‘that sounds like the wrong idea’.”
However, after watching the original trilogy and wanting to bring back the “romance, heart, loyalty” and more to the franchise, his wife told him that he would regret it, and so he took it up.
