TD legislator escapes after car catches fire
Police suspects short-circuit as the cause.
Hyderabad: TD legislator Modiyam Srinivasa Rao had a narrow escape when the car he was travelling in caught fire on Friday in the Assembly premises. The MLA’s gunman and the driver were in the car with Mr Srinivasa Rao when it caught fire. Mr Rao represents Polavaram, West Godavari, in the AP Assembly. After the AP Assembly session was adjourned on Friday, Mr Rao got into his white Swift (AP29 CB 0078) at the alighting point near the nursery. When the car was nearing the exit through the Osmania gate, the driver noticed smoke coming from the engine. Driver Srinivas Reddy parked the car to a side and all three occupants got down.
“In just five minutes, the fire spread across the bonnet. The engine was completely burnt,” said Saifabad inspector Poornachander. Police suspects the fire occurred due to a short circuit in the engine. In another incident, an Audi car (AP13 AD 999) caught fire at Banjara Hills on Friday evening. The car was parked in front of a coffee shop on Road No 15 when it caught fire.
The security guard of the coffee shop noticed smoke and alerted the fire brigade. A fire tender was rushed to put out the fire. “The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained. We have sent the car for an analysis”, added a police official added. The Audi Q3 (AP 13AD 999) is registered in the name of Himayathnagar-based businessman Ashfaq.
