Good Samaritan, this Kolar driver gets invite for Army Day

Army has invited him to the 68th Army Day Parade, which will be held in New Delhi on January 15.
TUMAKURU: “I’m extremely happy, and my little contribution as a jeep driver to the Indian Army has been recognised. This Army’s response has made me a more responsible citizen and will encourage me to do something for society,” this is what Mr B. Nagaraj, a driver with the Statistical Department, said after he received an invitation from the Army to attend the Army Parade next year.
Recognising Mr Nagaraj’s contribution, the Army has invited him to the 68th Army Day Parade, which will be held in New Delhi on January 15.
In a letter dated December 5, Adjutant General of Army Rakesh Sharma has said that the Army invites to the Army Parade, eminent personalities who have made substantial contribution for the welfare of soldiers.
Mr Sharma said that on behalf of the Chief of Army Staff, he was extending the invitation to Mr Nagaraj along with one companion to attend the Parade.
Every month, Mr Nagaraj has been contributing a day’s salary to the Army, protectors of the Country. He started it in 1999 when the government gave a call to all to give up their one day’s salary for the Kargil Relief Fund.
He started with Rs 130, which was his day’s salary in 1999, and has now reached around Rs 850. He has given written instructions to the authorities to deduct the day’s salary amount every month and to credit it into the account of the Army Central Welfare Fund, New Delhi.
Kolar Deputy Commissioner K.V. Trilok Chandra’s letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi appreciating the selfless service of Mr Nagaraj has been forwarded by Chief Secretary.
Mr Chandra has also appreciated Mr Nagaraj’s voluntary service in helping school and college students in various ways and his initiative in Swacch Andolan Mission by cleaning the DC’s Office and Court premises every day.
Mr Nagaraj’s daughter Shruti said that her family is happy with the Army’s recognition to her father.
