Council polls: Dr G Parameshwar wants rebels defeated
Youth Congress members to strip to the waist in support of senior leaders.
BENGALURU: In an attempt to demonstrate solidarity with their leaders, workers of the state unit of Indian Youth Congress (IYC) would march, sans their shirts, at a rally at Freedom Park on Saturday.
Speaking to Deccan Chronicle, KPYCC secretary, B. R. Anand said, "As many as 500 volunteers have come forward to go shirtless on Saturday. We will be congregating near Mourya Hotel junction. After garlanding the statue of Mahatma Gandhi, we will burn effigies of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP leader, Dr Subramanian Swamy.”
He added that after burning the effigies, the Youth Congress workers would undertake a march to Freedom Park to join the rally organised by KPCC. Meanwhile, KPCC president Dr G. Parameshwar on Friday asserted that the state Congress had organised state wide protest against BJP leaders. He alleged that the Union government had resorted to political vendetta and planned to send Congress president, Sonia Gandhi, and vice president, Rahul Gandhi, to jail.
While addressing a meeting of Bengaluru (rural) and Bengaluru (urban) districts leaders here, he said all party leaders to work together to defeat rebel candidate, Dayananda Reddy, MLC, in forthcoming elections to the Legislative Council.
Dr Parameshwar said, “In spite of party treating all of them (rebels) in a good manner, they have chosen to rebel against the party which gave them a platform. After rejuvenation, they have decided to axe the very tree under which they took shelter for a while. Being loyal party leaders we need to teach these rebels a lesson by defeating them.”
