855 candidates write UPSC main exams
Chennai: With the Centre turning down the request to postpone UPSC civil services main exam, 855 candidates from Tamil Nadu sat for the exam on Friday. Despite the trauma of the recent deluge, candidates had to sit for the exam.
“The first floor of my house was under water. I could not prepare anything for the UPSC for a whole one week. There was 12 ft water on the road. We formed a student’s group from Chennai and sent a mail to UPSC requesting it to postpone the examination, but they rejected the request,” M.Santhameena, a candidate, said. The UPSC replied that it could not postpone the exam for the sake of 15,000 students and there were many candidates from last year.
She said that on the third day of the floods, she went to her relative’s house and studied. “ I could not study, it was a trauma for me. Many of my friends who sat for the exam had lost their books and notes,” she said.
Further, she said that since it was Essay and English language paper today, it went well. The paper was easy. The examination was conducted in Quaid-e-Millath Government Girls College in Anna Salai.
According to Ganesh Subramanian, owner of Ganesh Academy, the Essay paper and English language paper was easy. “Essay paper had section A and Section B. There were four topics in each Candidates had to attempt one out of the four topics in each section,” he said. He added that while Essay paper was for ranking, English paper was a qualifying one.
