'Beauty & the Beast' musical to be held in Delhi
New Delhi: The grace of the Belle and agony of the beast were captured beautifully in the much-awaited musical adaptation of "Beauty & the Beast" here today. Initiated by Disney India and developed entirely by Indian talent, the 130-minute long production has brought together 100 of the best theatre performers from across the country.
The musical will be opened for public viewing for the first time in the capital from tomorrow onwards at Thyagraj Sports Complex after getting a thundering response in Mumbai. "The venue is incredible; it's really intimate. It's an immersive experience and the reaction we had today was so stupendous. We could feel the energy from the audience as they were enjoying the show. We are very excited about the coming days as we are going to have the show in Delhi.
"Honestly the audience in Mumbai was great, but tonight the reaction blew us off completely. People were understanding the little nuances. They were responding to every little thing. I think they were not expecting something of this magnitude and that really played a surprising role. "And I feel it is good to surprise the audience in a positive way, which we did today," Siddharth Roy Kapur, managing director of The Walt Disney Company India told PTI during a special screening for media.
Directed by Vikrant Pawar, the show features theatre artist Meher Mistry as Belle and Delhi boy Edwin Joseph as the Beast. Popular music composer and Indie-pop artist Lesle Lewis has created the original music track for the production. The magnificent, magical and majestic sets, created by art director Varsha Jain, add the grandeur to the musical.
The sets gave the real Broadway feel and adding on it was the lighting design by Becket Tundatil. Well known designer Gavin Miguel is behind the elaborate costumes for the musical show, bringing alive the grandeur and lavishness of Broadway and West End.
Dancer Terence Lewis has choreographed the dance sequences for the show. Present at the occasion were prominent faces of Delhi social circuit like Ramola Bacchhan, Riddhima Kapoor, designer JJ Valaya and choreographer Ashley Lobo. Deputy Chief Minister of Delhi Manish Sisodia also
attended the preview.
