Barack Obama to hold year-end news conference today: White House

Obama was also expected to renew his efforts to reassure a jittery American public.

Washington: President Barack Obama will hold a traditional year-end news conference today before leaving on a two-week family vacation to Hawaii, the White House said.

After the press conference Obama will fly on Air Force One to San Bernardino to meet families of the victims of the December 2 attack, before continuing on to Hawaii.

Obama's administration said the media event would be an opportunity to assess progress made in the past year, and set priorities for the year ahead.

The US leader was also expected to renew his efforts to reassure a jittery American public in the wake of the California shootings, which are being investigated as a terrorist attack.

Obama reiterated Thursday that US intelligence knew of no "specific, credible" terror threat to US soil, while urging Americans to remain vigilant over the holiday period.
