TRS eyes mayor seat, MIM patient
Hyderabad: The ruling TRS has set its eyes on the Hyderabad mayor’s seat and of late, has been making this clear at every given opportunity.
Though MIM is a “friendly ally” of the TRS, leaders of the ruling party have been quite vocal in the run up to the GHMC elections that the party would win the polls on its own and take the mayor’s seat.
TRS sources also said that even if there is a an “understanding” between the two parties, the TRS will stake first claim to the mayor’s post.
In the past, the Congress-MIM combine had shared the post for 30 months each in the five year tenure, but subsequently, this led to a rift.
After formation of Telangana and in the last general elections, TRS had a friendly tie up with the MIM.
Though the two are yet to revive ties for the GHMC polls, the ruling party leadership has gone all out to win the polls.
“We are able to see TRS posturing on the mayor’s seat. So far there have been no talks on reaching an “understanding” between the two parties. Normally, MIM doesn’t go in for an alliance with any party. So is the case in GHMC,” a MIM leader said.
According to a minister, whether TRS wins on its own or not, it will stake first claim for the mayor’s seat.
While TRS has to start from scratch in the GHMC elections, MIM has been the key player in earlier elections. In the past, MIM, Congress and TD shared the post.
Right from Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao to his ministers, all TRS leaders are claiming thumping win for the party in GHMC polls.
