Row over Kerala University giving land to APJ Abdul Kalam Techological University
Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala University’s move to hand over 75 acres to APJ Abdul Kalam Technological University at Kariavattom for setting up its permanent campus has kicked up a row.
Though, the last syndicate held on Monday had decided to send the proposal for the senate’s approval, the LDF syndicate member wrote a dissent note on the decision.
Moreover, KSU leader and Congress nominee J S Akhil, who is the student representative in the syndicate, walked out of the meeting in protest.
The existing office of the newly formed APJ Abdul Kalam Technological University is at MBA block of the College of Engineering, Trivandrum (CET). It will remain as the administrative office since it is close to the regional office of the All-India Council for Technical Education (AICTE).
Mr J Akhil said the Kerala University had already given up large areas to Technopark, Kariavattom International stadium, and many other institutes. Any move to hand over more land from the university would hamper the future development of the university, Mr Akhil said.
Apart from affiliating all engineering colleges in the state, the APJ Abdul Kalam Technological University would also have its own teaching departments.
The university’s plan was to start four or five teaching departments on the permanent campus initially. Each of them would specialise in one branch of engineering with under-graduate, post-graduate and research courses.
