No parallel stations: Ramesh Chennithala
Contradicts affidavit claiming such police stations in state.
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Home minister Ramesh Chennithala informed Assembly on Thursday that there were no parallel police stations functioning in any part of the state.
The statement came in the wake of a question raised by CPM MLA K.V. Vijayadas in Assembly who sought to know how many parallel police stations were functioning in the state and at which places.
Through his reply, the home minister, in fact, contradicted the DGP who had filed an affidavit almost a month ago before the court stating that a retired police office was running a parallel police system in Kochi.
As per the affidavit retired ACP of Kochi Sunil Jacob was running a private ‘Spy Detective Agency’ which was involved in settling several cases. His agency functioned out of the Empire building near Kerala High Court opposite to the central police station.
In view of the submissions made before the court, the judge had asked the DGP to file a detailed statement. It may be recalled that the state police chief had received an anonymous letter against Sunil Jacob.
The police conducted an investigation and found damning evidence against him. Following the probe three cops; Anshad, Shine and Lancelot, were transferred from the Kochi city police.
