Kochi: Kummanam Rajasekharan, the BJP president designate in Kerala, is expected to initiate drastic steps to weed out people associated with factional squabbles in the state unit of the party.
Sources familiar with the development in the Sangh Parivar told DC that the Hindu Aikya Vedi leader has agreed to become president on the condition that BJP and RSS leaderships will give a free hand to him and stand by him in this regard. He is expected to take charge in Thiruvananthapruam on Friday.
“Kummanam has also insisted that the RSS leadership in the state should play an active role in this regard,” a source said.
Mr Kummanam has clearly told BJP leadership that without the active support of RSS he will not be able to make much headway in the faction-ridden party unit in the state.
People familiar with Sangh Parivar politics in the state knows that V. Muraleed-haran, the incumbent BJP state president was reduced to lame-duck status due to the hostility of the local RSS leadership.
A large-section of BJP and RSS cadres, currently inactive in the organisational sphere in the state due to their antipathy towards present crop of leaders, are expected to become active if Kummanam takes over as the president of the state unit.
“We are hoping that Kummanam will be able to breathe fresh air into the party in the state”, Shyam Mohan, a BJP activist from Kannur said.
