DDCA row: Amit Shah summons Kirti Azad for attacking Jaitley in past
New Delhi: BJP chief Amit Shah on Friday summoned party MP Kirti Azad, who has often attacked Arun Jaitley over "corruption" in DDCA when he had headed it, apparently in a bid to dissuade him from raking up his allegations at a time AAP has used them to target the Finance Minister. Azad, however, stuck to his decision of holding a press conference on the issue on Sunday.
"It was a good meeting (with Shah). I will hold the press conference on Sunday," he said.
Though there was no official comment on what transpired in the meeting, party sources said Shah advised Azad to exercise restraint, noting that opposition parties have used these charges to attack BJP.
Shah's summoning of Azad came a day after BJP general secretary Ram Lal called him over the same issue. BJP is understood to have told Azad that these are old charges dating back till 2013 when Jaitley headed DDCA and Congress was in power at the Centre as well as in Delhi but nothing came out of them.
"With BJP now in power in Delhi, Congress and AAP are using the same charges to embarass Jaitley and BJP," a party leader said.
