Andhra Pradesh top cops in political crossfire

Telugu Desam wants to nail YSRC leaders in all major cases in AP.

Hyderabad: Top AP police officials are caught in a political crossfire as the ruling Telugu Desam wants to nail YSRC leaders in all major cases in AP.

In the latest instance, TD wanted to implicate YSRC leader and former MLA C.K. Babu for the murder of the Chittoor mayor and her husband but it boomeranged, leading to the suicide of a corporator and aide of Mr Babu. The victim, in the suicide note, alleged police harassment.

Investigation in the murders have only revealed the role of the victims’ relative and his associates and arrests have already been made in the case, making it clear that the motive was not political.

In the call money case too, YSRC leaders involved in regular financing are being arrested though the case pertains to sextortion. YSRC leader Mr Ambati Rambabu alleged, “The case is pertaining to the call money racket of Vijayawada but searches were conducted throughout AP only to water down the case; they are booking even regular financiers.”

It has also been alleged that the PD Act has been booked against red sanders smugglers affiliated to the YSRC whereas no action has been taken against those associated with the TD.

In an another incident, a local corporator committed suicide by hanging allegedly after the police grilled him on Wednesday as part of the investigation into the recent murder of the Chittoor mayor and her husband.

In a suicide note, Pulicherla Sivaprasad Reddy, 40, corporator of the 38th division in Chittoor, stated that he was taking the extreme step because of police harassment. The corporator was visibly upset after the cops searched his house and took him to the police station for questioning on Wednesday evening.
