Madras High Court refuses to stay ‘BEEP’ summons
A song composed by Anirudh and sung by Simbu was obscene.
Chennai: The Madras high court on Thursday declined to stay the operation of the summons issued by the Coimbatore police against actor Simbu and music director Anirudh. Justice R Subbiah who declined to stay the operation of the summons, posted to January 5, further hearing of the petition filed by Simbu and Anirudh, challenging the summons, which required them to appear before the Race Course police on December 19.
Following complaints from the Coimbatore unit of the All India Democratic Women Association (AIDWA) and others, alleging that a song composed by Anirudh and sung by Simbu, which was uploaded in the social media, was obscene and depicted the women in very bad taste, the Race Course Police in Coimbatore registered a criminal case against the duo and issued summons.
