Mumbai: The trailer of much awaited biopic on Neerja Bhanot, ‘Neerja’ was launched with much grandeur yesterday. Actress Sonam Kapoor who is playing the role of valiant flight attendant in the film launched the trailer along with Shabana Azmi, ace photographer turned producer Atul Kasbekar and director Ram Madhvani.
Sonam revealed that when the script came to her, she could relate so much that she gave her nod in a click, she said, “When I heard the story, I found it so much alike. I am also an ordinary girl from Mumbai like Neerja. I used to wonder whether I would able to pull it off or not, but when I met Neerja’s family, they gave me so much courage that, that made me confident.”
The critics for her dire acting have trashed Sonam several times or so, but the actress is trying harder to show her acting skills. In regards with ‘Neerja’, she feels that this film was emotionally challenging for her, “I think this film is emotionally challenging and this role has made me so strong. ‘Neerja’ brought a positive change in me.” she adds.
Neerja Bhanot is surely an unsung hero and her story should definitely be told to the people. In fact Sonam is among those who weren’t aware of Neerja Bhanot before the film was offered to her. “I never knew about Neerja Bhanot before signing the film,” she admitted. Sonam also revealed that when she was shooting for the film, she felt estranged.
With the series of flops up untill her last 'PRDP', Sonam is desperate to get a hit film at the box office, she feels that ‘Neerja’ will do wonders for her. She said, “At this point of time in my career, I really need a break and I feel Neerja is that break for me.” She further said, “It was great working with director Ram Madhvani on the film.”
Known for her shyness, Sonam also confessed that as a child she never saw herself being an actress but It was Shabana Azmi who pushed her to become an actor. She said, “I have always been a shy and reserved person. I had stage fright, but when my parents went to Shabana aunty, she encouraged me.”
There were reports that Sonam has signed 'Aashiqui 3' with Hrithik Roshan. She rubbished the news and said, “I haven’t signed 'Aashiqui 3' with Hrithik. Though I have many film offers, for now I have only signed my sister Rhea’s film.”
