Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho sacked

The 52-year-old led the club to the Premier League title seven months back

London: Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho – who led the club to the Premier League title barely seven months back – has been sacked following poor show in the ongoing season.

The 52-year-old took charge in June 2013, which was his second stint with the club.

The Blues lacked the spunk this season and lost nine of the 16 league games so far thus being pushed to the 16th spot in the standings – a point above the relegation.

Mourinho's last nail in the coffin was losing to Leicester City 2-1 on Monday.

Owner Roman Abramovich had earlier sacked the Portuguese in 2007.

The Chelsea board was due to meet to discuss the manager’s position on Wednesday and the club’s hierarchy was also drawing up a list of potential replacements.

Chelsea says "both Jose and the board agreed results have not been good enough this season and believe it is in the best interests of both parties to go our separate ways."

Juande Ramos, the former Tottenham Hotspur and Sevilla manager, and Dutchman Guus Hiddink have been cited as potential short-term replacements.
Pep Guardiola, the Bayern Munich coach, and Carlo Ancelotti, who managed Chelsea between 2009 and 2011, are reported to be possible long-term successors.
