Tech students to help GHMC during polling in elections

Engineering students who have their own laptops will be provided with net connectivity.
Hyderabad: The GHMC is likely to seek the help of engineering students to provide live coverage of the process of polling during the GHMC elections through webcasting. Engineering students who have their own laptops will be provided with net connectivity through a data card and the corporation will pay them remuneration.
GHMC commissioner B. Janardhan Reddy said 7,750 polling stations would be set up in the GHMC’s 150 wards. “We are coordinating with principals of engineering colleges. We will hold a meeting for the purpose on December 18.” Meanwhile, the TS Election Commission issued orders posting 30 IAS officers as observers for the elections. Apart from this, 26 senior auditing officials will coordinate with the observers during elections.
“The IAS officers who have been appointed as election observers will be allotted wards. They will be provided with a gunman and liaison officers while they perform election duties,” Dr Janardhan Reddy said. He said that till the issue of GHMC election notification, citizens can enrol their names in the electoral rolls. He said that the corporation had so far received 3,21,926 claims. Following verification, 3,04,677 new voters had been enrolled and the remaining 39,368 claims had been rejected, Dr Janardhan Reddy said.
