There would be no inlet of sewerage into the Hussainsagar next summer.
Hyderabad: There would be no inlet of sewerage into the Hussainsagar next summer. Thanks to the Chief Minister’s dream to turn the lake into a drinking water source, the Kukatpally nala is being diverted so that no pollutants enter the lake. A master plan is also being prepared for Gandipet Lake, said minister for IT and panchayat raj K.T. Rama Rao. This has also raised the question whether the government will carry out dewatering of the lake which was stopped in 2015. The city’s sewerage Board is laying the trunk sewer main for a length of 2.8 km at a cost of Rs 8 crore. The works are being taken up in four packages from Kukatpally Nala to Marriot Hotel.
Presently, only 100 mld of sewage is entering the lake, according to the sewerage Board. However for future requirements, it is designed to ensure 100 per cent prevention of pollutants entering the lake. So far about 2 km of pipeline has been laid, the balance 0.8 km will be completed in the next two months. “Pipes are laid being at deeper depths of below 8 meter. Power cables, water supply trunk mains, rocks, traffic problems etc. are causing the slow progress. Sewerage diversion works from all nalas have already been completed, said the HMWS&SB MD.
Illegal drawing of drinking water Ten motors that were being used to illegally draw water by directly fixing them to the water connection have been seized from Krishna Nagar by the task force team under Dilsukhnagar section.
