Karnataka High Court reserves verdict in B S Yeddyurappa land cases

BSY filed a petition seeking to quash three FIRs registered against him in three separate cases filed by Lokayukta police.

Bengaluru: The Karnataka High Court on Wednesday reserved its judgment on the petition filed by former Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa seeking to quash three FIRs registered against him in three separate cases filed by Lokayukta police.

The Lokayukta police investigating the illegal land denotification cases had registered FIRs in connection with alleged illegal denotification of 2.36 acres of land in Banashankari fifth stage, four acres of land in Valagerahalli in Jnanabharathi and two acres of land in Rachenahalli in Arkavathy Layout.

The FIRs were registered followed a complaint filed by one Jayakumar Hiremath based on the Comptroller and Auditor General of India (CAG) report in 2012 – Denotification of land by government and allotment of sites by BDA. The complaint was filed with the Lokayukta by Hiremath in 2014.

The state government had approached the Supreme Court in the matter, to which the SC on Monday had asked the Karnataka High Court to ‘expeditiously’ decide pleas relating to registration of three FIRs by Lokayukta against Yeddyurappa in land-denotification cases in Bengaluru.

HAL airport plea quashed

The High Court has dismissed petitions filed Airport Authority Employees Union and the Association of Outsourcing Professionals seeking directions to reopen HAL airport. The court dismissed the PILs citing that the court would not interfere in the policy decision of the government. The petitioners had sought for direction to reopen, and operate HAL airport for commercial schedule and also to hand over HAL airport operations to Airport Authority of India.
