Dharnas on rise in Hyderabad
It is in view of the GHMC elections.
Hyderabad: The city is witnessing an increasing number of dharnas and padayatras organised by Opposition parties in view of the GHMC elections. TD MLAs are planning to hold padayatras from 8 am to 11 am and from 5 pm to 7 pm daily in the run-up to the elections. Over eight dharnas were staged this month.
While areas in and around Gachibowli have been facing water crises for months, Telugu Desam legislators and corporators chose this occasion to hold dharnas at the Water Board office of the Hafizpet division. While these are pre-election activities create traffic snarls as the activists take to the roads in huge numbers supported by hundreds of their hench men.
A senior traffic inspector said, “We are caught unawares by the dharnas unless locals or social media updates are received.” “By the time we go to the spot, the activists have already disrupted traffic. Arresting the activists as a preventive measure is the only alternative to clear the roads.”
