Parameters set to choose candidates

The organisations demanded that the candidate be younger than 50 years.
Hyderabad: For the coming civic elections, over 20 civic organisations have joined hands to draw up parameters to choose their immediate local representatives. The organisations demanded that the candidate be younger than 50 years , be a resident of the local ward, hold a degree and be from the middle or lower economic strata. Residents don’t want any relative of a civic contractor and say that parties must nominate new faces.
Other demands are that the candidate should have no criminal record and that he or she should not have any business interests. Forum For Good Governance secretary M. Padmanabha Reddy said, “The GHMC with a population of about a crore is like a small country. Due to the rapid expansion during the last two decades, there is a heavy pressure on civic amenities like drainage, roads, water supply, street lights, parks and more. To solve these issues, it is important to have committed corporators.” The 20 organisations have formed the Telangana Election Watch with a view to increasing the voting percent, appealing to parties not to give tickets to candidates with criminal records and organising a platform for contesting candidates to better understand them.
