Left slams CM Oomen Chandy's soft approach
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Left parties, which stoutly opposed the exclusion of the chief minister from R Sankar statue unveiling ceremony in Kollam, have criticised him for his failure to take on the Sangh Parivar head on.
The Left leadership says the chief minister only conveyed his inability to attend the function whereas he should have mentioned the reason clearly.
It was only as late as December 14, two days after he was excluded from the function, that the chief minister came out with strong statement against Sangh Parivar in a Facebook post.
The Opposition is not ready to buy Chandy's account that he did not mention the reason for his exclusion in his communication to PMO to maintain propriety and decorum.
"If he cannot convey strong opposition on such issues at the right time, then when is he going to react? Even his press statement on the issue was vague. It was only after our state secretariat severely criticised him that he came out with a Facebook post. He has always played along with the Sangh Parivar to weaken us," CPM state secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan told DC.
The CPM state secretary said the chief minister was now trying to play a victim to generate sympathy for his exclusion.
"Even after registering a case against Vellapally Natesan for making a communally provocative speech, the government has not taken any action against him. There's no action against him on the micro finance corruption complaints," said Kodiyeri.
CPI state secretary Kanam Rajendran said the chief minister had only started speaking against Sangh Parivar after the Congress defeat in the recent local body poll.
"Before elections, he was convinced that BJP's gain would be LDF's loss. But when the BJP gained massively at the cost of the Congress, Chandy hesitatingly started attacking the Sangh Parivar,” he said.
