Kishore was working as an HR Executive with Samsung and Kavita was a Process Executive with Infosys.

Bengaluru: A HR executive, who claimed to be an IPS officer and his girlfriend, who had stolen a gold chain from a jewellery shop were arrested by the J.P. Nagar police.

The accused, Kishore Kumar, 24, is a resident of Devasandra Main Road and a native of Chennai, while his girlfriend Kavita, 22, is a resident of Electronic City and a native of Pandavapura in Mandya. Kishore was working as an HR Executive with Samsung and Kavita was a Process Executive with Infosys.

Police said they were living together for the past two years and planned to get married in a few months. Kavita had celebrated her birthday just four days ago and she had asked Kishore to gift her something expensive. Kishore had promised her to present a gold chain. On Monday afternoon, they went to Vimal Jewellers, belonging to Suresh Kumar, on Sarakki Main Road.

“In the showroom, Kishore introduced himself as an IPS officer to the sales executive. They first purchased a silver bracelet and then asked the executive to show gold chains. The executive took out nine gold chains and showed them. On the pretext of selecting one, Kishore managed to steal a gold chain weighing 16 grams, while Kavita engaged the executive in conversation. They then said they did not like any of the chains and made a move. But the alert executive found that a chain was missing and held them back. The staff immediately alerted the police, who rushed to the spot and found a gold chain in Kishore’s pocket,” the police said.

Both were arrested immediately and a theft case was booked against them.
